MSF Past Events Our first few years have been terrific, made possible by the support of all of Mia’s family and friends. We are excited about the continued success of our events, detailed below: Annual Benefit 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008 The annual benefit has raised almost $250,000 since inception. Past events have included an auction, raffle, food and lots of good conversation. 2003 and 2004 were hosted at the Sutphin Family home. 2005, the event transitioned to Trinity School in Ellicott City, where Mia attended school from kindergarten through eighth grade. The chapel, gymnasium, playground, woods and spacious parking made Trinity a fantastic location for this event from 2003 to 2007. In 2008, the event moved to Turf Valley Resort for the first time. Twenty eight golfers braved the wet weather for our first outing, which was followed by a very nice dinner celebration. The evening was marked by our keynote speaker, Sr. Mary Owens, executive director of Nyumbani Children's Home in Kenya, a MSF grant recipient. The annual benefit continues to be a wonderful day to continue the charitable work of MSF. Annual Yard and Bake Sale 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006 If you're looking for any bargains or just looking to clean out your garage, you'll want to make our Annual Yard and Bake Sale. You can set up your own table or just come to browse. On average, between fifteen and twenty families each year have contributed more than $2,000 to MSF, making a grand total of more than $8,000 raised in four years of this great event-amazing! The success of the yard and bake sale is no accident. This has been the result of the willingness by Bill & Cindy Braunschwieger and Cal & Sandy Sutphin to open their yards & house, as well as the selfless contribution of time and energy by each of you to truly make the day a terrific event. In the past, everything from a sail boat, homemade soaps, saddles and tack, armories, clothing and rugs has been sold to benefit Mia’s foundation. Surplus baked goods have gone to Millennium Nursing Home and unsold household items were contributed to the Appalachian Mission Store and Salvation Army. Beautiful sunshine and delicious baked goods have been great additions to this special day. Music for Mia 2005 & 2006 We had fundraising dinner events at Mangia Italian Grill and Sports Cafe in the Waverly Woods Village Center on May 25, 2005 and June 7, 2006. During the evening hours, the owners of Mangia donated a portion of revenue from each night to MSF. In addition, wonderful entertainment was provided by the Notations, who played music from 7pm to 9pm. In two great years of of these event, more than $2,500 has been raised for the foundation. Mangia is located at 10795 Birmingham Way, Woodstock, Maryland 21163. Their phone number is 410-461-2900. Continued Thanks We have so many people to thank for helping to build Mia's Foundation. From the start of our first kick off meeting, to the preparation of events and grant making, our family would also like to thank so many of you for helping to build Mia's Foundation into the wonderful organization that it is today.
